Fighters Only Celebrate 50th Issue with UK MMA History Exclusive
Fighters Only, the world's leading Mixed Martial Arts and Lifestyle magazine, launches its 50th issue this week with an 8 page history of the sport in the UK.
TYNE AND WEAR, UK, April 24, 2009 /Martial Arts PR News/ -- Fighters Only, the world's leading Mixed Martial Arts and Lifestyle magazine, launches its 50th issue this week with an 8 page history of the sport in the UK. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), often referred to as Cage Fighting, has been popularized in the UK by the UFC who have sold out arenas across the country.
Although MMA is now cited as the UK's largest indoor sport, events have been held in the country since the early nineties and the feature charts the sports development since its beginning with comments from many of the sports pioneers. With reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter featuring a team of UK fighters pitted against a team of American fighters currently being broadcast in both the UK and US Fighters Only managing director Rob Hewitt admits that the timing couldn't have been better:
"British fighters are now competing successfully on the world stage but we felt it necessary to educate fans about exactly how far the domestic scene has come. Being the world's first monthly magazine to cover the sport, and being a British publication too, there is nobody better suited to covering this subject than us."
Fighters Only Managing Director Rob Hewitt continues:
"Reaching our 50th Issue is a landmark for us and our growth and continued success is down to both the hard work of our staff and the innovative approach that we've taken to our subject matter. We set out to break the mold in which combat sports were represented in print and 50 issues later we're still evolving. Our aim has always been the same though - to provide our readers with high quality coverage of the MMA sport, industry and lifestyle."
The 50th Issue, available from 23rd April, features a special commemorative cover designed by Hollywood movie poster expert Will Ragland. The magazine contains sections covering the latest news, interviews, sports lifestyle, events, equipment and training tips.
Launched in February 2005 the publication has experienced phenomenal growth bucking trends in the magazine industry. On sale in 13 countries, Fighters Only recently launched dedicated US, Canadian and German editions to satisfy regional demand from overseas fans. At the beginning of 2009 Fighters Only amended their print schedule to allow them to produce 13 magazines a year instead of 12 to cope with demand from the domestic market.
